Resin Art
Abbey Matthews
Local artist, Abbey Matthews, earned her M.A. from the Savannah College of Art and Design. While having an appreciation of all types of art, abstract art made a lasting impression on her. "I'm just passionate about being creative, in whatever form that may take.” Seven years ago she began experimenting with different mediums. The specific and meticulous process of working with resin began a true passion for this art form. “My work isn't bound to anything other than the freedom of following the creative flow.”
Through experimentation, she has mastered the difficult process of painting with resin, creating photo realistic work depicting the moods of the ocean and also the beauty within abstract creations. Her bold compositions use the fluidity and translucency of resin to capture dazzling effects of light and water. Her abstract pieces give a sense of depth with the numerous layer techniques that she executes.
Abbey’s art has been housed in numerous galleries in Jacksonville, Florida as group and solo art exhibits. She currently teaches art at Jacksonville Country Day School and teaches classes through the Ponte Vedra Beach Cultural Arts Council.
